Lanier LD035
The Lanier LD035 is another quality monochrome multifunction copier, scanner, fax and printer from parent company Ricoh, the Japanese manufacturer of machinery and just about everything else. It looks much like the others in the range, differing mainly by capability. Offering faster print and copy speeds and more paper handling options than others lower down the chain.
Connecting and configuring the LD035 is a straightforward job. It can be connected via network or USB with the option to include wireless if needed with an optional wireless card. The user manual is large, but complete and easy to understand. The web based control panel has dialog boxes and help files galore, so it makes it easy to use for everyone.
The full blue touch screen control panel is straightforward and easy to use, taking only a minute or two to get a feel for it. You probably won’t use it much though as just about everything can be controlled from the web-based control panel. Despite this, no corners have been cut with it, the buttons are still solid, and well laid out surrounding the screen.
Printing is of a good standard, with accurate reproduction of both text and images during our tests. Image details were fine and true to the original while text was printed straight with no bleeding, even on the smallest or largest point. Photo reproduction was also great, without visible banding on black and white images, and acceptable mono reproduction of full color ones. The print speed is also pretty good with a rating of 35 pages per minute for monochrome printing and copying.
On the top there is a 80 sheet automatic document feeder, with duplexing. There are two 500 sheet paper trays and a 50 sheet document bypass tray. There are also the options to add more paper trays, document finishing, memory and network options.
Toners are straightforward to manage, replace, and are relatively inexpensive. The cartridges are good for 30000 sheets at 5% coverage, which gives them a decent life. At $20 per refill, the running costs of the LD035 is impressively low.
The scan facility is good, accessed either from the flatbed or over the network. Document quality is excellent, even at the standard 600 dpi.
The LD035 is a no-nonsense workhorse printer designed for high quality, high demand situations. It is built to produce professional looking business documentation throughout the day and excels at everything it does.
