Konica Minolta MagiColor 5440DL

The Konica Minolta MagiColor 5440DL is a real advance from its predecessor, the 5430DL. While slightly larger it is for those who really do have to print in color.

The 5440DL is relatively quick for a lower end laser, and comes with a duplexer for double sided printing. Color prints appear at a rate of 4 pages per minute and monochrome pages at 15.

Setting up is easy, merely insert the cartridges, connect it, install the drivers then plug it in. Just like the 5430DL, this printer needs a host computer in order for it to work properly. The computer does all the work, processing the images and sending instruction to the printer, rather than the printer having its own processor and doing it itself. This means that the computer will always need to be on and connected to use the printer.

The standard paper tray can now hold 500 sheets, and there is also a multipurpose tray which is good for another 100. A pair of optional 500 sheet trays are also available if you need more. The built in 64Mb memory is plenty enough for most uses, but is also expandable to 576Mb for busier offices.

Performance is good, with that average print speed of 15 pages per minute for monochrome and 4 for color. Warm up time entailed a little wait of 54 seconds, but that isn’t unusual for a color laser printer. Print resolution is a standard 600 dpi, with text and image printing both offering good quality output. Text especially was well done with detailed and straight edges all the way down to 3pt. Diagrams and images were also well produced and colors were even and accurate, which is ideal for office use.

If you’re considering buying a color laser printer but are worried about the cost of running one, the 5440DL is well worth a look. It offers a reasonable purchase price, good quality backup from Konica and cheap consumables. With a per page cost of around 1.6 cents for a mono page, and 10.1 for color, it doesn’t cost too much to run. All of which should be an appealing prospect to any small or home office that is in the market for a new color printer.

Konica Minolta Di201

The Konica Minolta Di2010 is another good, solid printer from the Konica range. It continues the trend of modular construction that allows the buyer to specify almost every option of the machine, right down to the type of print controller it uses.

This is a monochrome laser printer that can output up to 20 pages per minute day after day, week after week. Print quality is good in the default 600 dpi resolution. Monochrome blacks and grays are clear and well formed with the print controller using each of the 256 shades to great effect. There was no bleed or jagged edges on large text or images in any of our tests which used our standard 24 page test document with text, graphs and photos. It is designed to really put these machines though their paces.

The LCD screen and controls are simple and easy to use, with the screen being tiltable, and having a full QWERTY keyboard to boot. The screen is backlit and clear, with the ability to tilt it depending on height and sunlight. This is a neat touch and adds freedom of access for wheelchairs.

The upgrade options include optional duplexer, extra paper trays to take the total to 4000 sheets, document finisher, hard drive, memory upgrades, network scanner, print controller, auto reversing document feeder, and many more. This really is a tunable machine, which means it can grow with the office.

Once the machine is configured and installed it should give you no problems for a long time. The build quality is top-notch with everything feeling solid and durable. The paper trays are strong, and there are no flappy bits of flimsy pieces of plastic to be broken off. Konica have a reputation for reliability, which makes the after-sales service something of an unknown quantity. We have heard nothing negative from long term users so we imagine it’s all good.

The reasonable cost of the machine along with the low cost per page makes the Di2010 a good choice for the small business. With fast printing and good quality results, this is a great addition to the Minolta range.

The Konica 7022 has one of a kind print driver application such as the Stamp and the Watermark options for the user. The optional memory can be upgraded, there is a document feeder and also print controllers as well as a fax kit which enables further features to meet business needs. The machine takes about 30 seconds or less to warm up and the copy takes about five seconds. The standard memory is of 32MB while the maximum can be of 288 MB. It has the capacity to hold up to 2,550 sheets and has an automatic duplex. The standard two trays can hold up to 1100 sheets, the three tray option can hold up to 800 sheets while the four tray option can hold up to 400 sheets.

The other features of the Konica 7022 are job memory, image shift, OHP Interleave, frame and folding, book copy, AMS, ECM, ATS, APS and stamp and watermark integration. The fax memory is of 2MB which can be increased to 16 MB. It has internet fax and the machine weighs about 72kg. Due to its size it will be perfect for offices and businesses where it is always busy and the employees require a reasonable amount of printing, faxing and other services from machines like these. This machine has had a lot of good reviews from customers online and it still considered being the first option for many companies. The toner yield for the Konica 7022 is 30,000 impressions. It is a high performance machine which is completely networkable and is a 4 in 1 MFP delivering high quality results. It is perfect to use for small or medium sized working environments.

Konica Minolta MagiColor 2300DL

The Konica Minolta MagiColor 2300DL is still going strong after many years in production. Before it came along, consumers had three choices. Either spend money on an inkjet for decent color output, a mono laser and do without color, or save up and spend a considerable amount on a color laser printer. The 2300DL is the ideal middle ground. It offers good quality printing at a remarkably reasonable price.

It comes with an Ethernet port as standard for sharing on the network, which makes for a very flexible package. To add to flexibility, there is the option of adding a duplexer, a second paper cassette and even a copying and scanning unit to the 2300DL to make it a multifunction.

There is a 200 sheet capacity paper drawer and a 10 sheet manual feed slot.

This printer will work straight out of the box. Installation is a breeze and will have you up and running in minutes rather than the hours some printers take. The package contains everything needed to print different sized documents on differing media. The straight out of the box line was no exaggeration either. The toner cartridges are pre-installed so there is no fiddling around there.

The starter cartridges are good for around 3000 pages, and the replacements 4500. This model uses a drum which is a departure, as other models used an integrated cartridge/drum all in one. Luckily replacements have a duty cycle of 45000 sheets before needing a change.

The print speed isn’t the fastest on the market at an average of 15 pages per minute for a mixed document of color and mono. However, the print quality is what makes this printer something special.

The polymerized toner gives everything a nice sheen when it’s printed. All text and images were sharp, precise and evenly toned. Even a photograph, which gives so many laser printers pause, came out looking great. Almost as good as an inkjet could produce.

While not the fastest printer, the 2300DL produces prints of such quality as to make it well worth the cost. A color laser printer that produces images almost as good as a decent inkjet isn’t to be sniffed at.

Konica 1212

The Konica 1212 is for office use only due to its size and it is the machine that is replacing the very popular Konica 1290RE copier. I purchased this for a new business and it proved to be the best, giving me high quality results and it is very cost effective. It has the speed to copy about 12 copies per minute which gives an average of up to 7,500 copies per month. This amount is a lot as compared to other machines so this is the reason why it is perfect to use for professional and business purposes. The Konica 1212 comes in a compact desktop design which is able to fit in the most space-challenged rooms in an office. Its features include zoom reduction and enlargement from 60% to 165% in 1% increments. This copier has the ability to process original documents and copies from an invoice to a ledger size.

This copier is completely environment friendly as it also comes with energy saving features. It has a power requirement of about 230V AC, 50Hz and the main unit consumes about 1300W of maximum power. It weighs about 37.5kg which is the weight of the main unit alone. It accepts original single sheets, books and three dimensional objects for scanning and copying and the copy paper can be an offset, master, transparencies, labels etc. When turning on the copier you have to allow it to warm up for about a minute. The first copy takes about 7.5 seconds and the tray can hold up to 250 sheets at one time. It has an OPC drum, development dry dual component, a magnetic brush system and a heated roller fixing.

The Konica 1212 has very low decibel levels as well as ozone levels and is an organic photoconductor which has toner recycling capabilities. The copier machine uses one of the longest lasting organic photoreceptors available and has the ability to yield 60,000 copies. The toner has the ability to output 7,500 copies in one cartridge or five months of use at an average volume of 1,500 copies in a month. There are many toner cartridges available for this machine out there which last longer than normal ink cartridges. Toners are in the form of powder and a closed toner cartridge can be stored for about two years prior to usage. So due to its high yield or output this copier will be perfect to use in an office environment where there are so many documents to take care of with little time on everybody’s hands.

Konica Minolta Di3510

Our office has used Konica copiers for as long as I have worked here. The latest was the Konica Minolta Di3510, which we are still using now. The first thing to say about it is that is hasn’t broken down once since we got it. The contractor must be laughing as we’re paying for a maintenance contract but haven’t had to use it yet.

The black and grey coloring adds a nice accent to our office. The colors just make it look more businesslike and technical even though it isn’t. The Di3510 can do almost everything, printing, copying and scanning. The scanning is neat because we can do it really quick. Add the documents into the automatic feeder and it will scan them all at around 70 sheets a minute. The quality is good too, with none of the graininess that you get on some scanners. You can also get it to scan to email or to the hard drive, for later collection.

The printer is very good. It prints around 35 pages a minute, which is good. The prints it provides are good quality, all the black is black and all the text is clear and all the lines are straight. Even when printing tiny letters at 3pts, the ink it clear and the letter look good. Printing photos is also very good for a laser printer. We used to have to print them on an inkjet which used to be a pain, but now we can do everything from the one machine.

Obviously the copier is just as good as it uses the same bits as the printer. You can send it print or copy jobs from the PC and they will be ready for you when you get there, which is a neat feature. It certainly saves on having to wait around for everything to be finished.

You can build the Di3510 up with all sorts of options. We just added more paper capacity, which took it up to 4000 sheets, which is the maximum. We also have a document finisher which adds staples or bindings to the booklets we make. That makes all the difference to how many of them we can produce in a day. You can add memory to make it quicker, more paper like us, a hard drive, duplexer for double sided and lots of other options.

The Di3510 is a good printer and copier. We don’t need anything else right now so this should last us a few more years before needing replacement. I would definitely recommend this printer to anyone needing something reliable that doesn’t take a degree in engineering to work, and will do anything you ask of it.
